Protean Bodies, Transucid Decay is an installation of works that relate transgender existence to material flux and ecology. Protean Bodies, Transucid Decay stems from my experiences with connecting trans and queer survival to ecological resilience, ceramic flux, and material transmutation. This exhibit asks how material, light, and queer alchemy allow us to engage with sensory representations of color, texture, and time and share a personal experience with the ways the LGBTQIA+ community persists, radiant, in both ephemeral and physical spaces.

Protean Bodies, Transucid Decay is a trans-ecological space with forms inspired by natural processes. Consisting of sculpture, paintings, and backlit porcelain luminaries, Protean Bodies, Translucid Decay reveals moments of symbiosis between materials while positioning queer and transgender survival as inseparably linked to the fate of the natural world. Lichenous glazes, artificial lava, root-bound sculpture, and paintings made with rainwater all act as conduits between material and the moment of its transformation. Texture, fragments, brushstrokes, drips, and cracks define the making of each piece, where I search for balance between creation and decay, process and intention, and collaboration with materials.

By closely observing the elements of the natural world most impacted by climate change, natural disaster, and human intervention, I draw connections between ways that the environment and LGBTQIA+ community are protean, adaptable, and symbiotic to survive political and environmental oppression.
